FAQs for Locals

What if I need to cancel a session?

At LinkaLocal we highly discourage cancellations for a few reasons.

  • For repeat business and good reviews cancellations cannot be frequent.
  • Users depend on your ability to provide them with a speaking opportunity so that they can meet their personal goals . If you cancel, you are slowing that process for them.
  • Users depend on your ability to provide them with a speaking opportunity so that they can meet their personal goals . If you cancel, you are slowing that process for them.

But, if for any reason you need to cancel, contact all participants immediately and inform them of your cancellation. Users will then receive a full refund upon cancellation.

LinkaLocal reserves the right to delete any account whose cancellations are consecutive and/or excessive.

Am I teaching a language?

The direct answer is no you are not. As a Local you are not expected to teach language. This means you are not expected to prepare curriculum or give extensive, professional answers regarding grammar, writing, speaking and listening. A local’s objective is to provide participation and enthusiasm while leading a conversation in a specific topic. You are expected to use the materials provided in collaboration with your instinct for the direction of the conversation. Your own personality and insight can create a memorable experience for users.

What if the guest is behind schedule?

If a participant is running late, do not wait to begin the conversation if others have already arrived. When the late person arrives, gently ease them into the flow of the conversation, by first welcoming them and then continuing with the group conversation. You will be compensated at the same rate even if the person is late. There is no deduction.

What if I am late?

If you are late, tell your participants as soon as possible. Also, tell them the approximate time you will arrive. Get to the designated spot as soon as you can, but do not compromise your own safety to do so. Obey traffic laws and use good judgement so you can remain safe and energized for the discussion. One last thing, if participants have the time, be prepared to stay beyond the original finish time to make up for your tardiness.

Where should I meet up with participants?

We suggest you choose a coffee or tea place that you like. After participants pay for a seat you can send the specific name of the coffee or tea shop via message. Also, arrive about 10 minutes early so that you can secure a table to accommodate the group.

Should I expect to give users feedback about their targeted language’s language ability?

No, you should not expect to give participants this type of feedback. But, if a participant requests your opinion about their ability, you can if you choose to do so. However, we prefer that any feedback given be done through messaging in your account. This ensures a record of receipt for your participant.
